Abstract:
Much of the pathogenesis of SARS-CoV-2 remains an enigma. The virus upon transmission replicates principally in the respiratory tract and subsequently in other anatomical sites. Viral RNA detection by quantitative PCR in respiratory tract samples has been the mainstay of diagnosis. Does PCR positivity translate to the presence of infectious viruses? Serological markers arise after viral clearance. Immunological markers spike up only in serious disease. What do we infer from these trends? Do these markers give us a clue to target our fight against SARS-CoV-2?
